Le minage c'est le procédé par lequel les bitcoins sont mis en circulation. Les mineurs effectuent avec leur matériel informatique des calculs mathématiques pour le réseau Bitcoin afin de confirmer des transactions et augmenter leur sécurité. Comme récompense pour leurs services, ils collectent les bitcoins nouvellement créés ainsi que les frais des transactions qu'ils confirment. Les mineurs (ou les coopératives de mineurs) sont en concurrence et leurs revenus sont proportionnels au nombre de calculs effectués.

Ce que vous devez savoir avant de commencer

Le minage de crypto-devises est une activité qui nécessite du temps, de l'argent et une certaine maîtrise technique. Miner avec un simple ordinateur de bureau est totalement illusoire. Se lancer dans le minage sans un minimum de connaissances technique l'est aussi. Avant de vous lancer dans cette aventure, nous vous invitons à lire le témoignage édifiant de Greg Ryder et à visiter l'espace dédié au minage sur le forum.

Si vous y renoncez pour pouvez toujours tenter de miner des crypto-devises moins exigeantes en capacité de calcul, ou acheter des bitcoins sur les places de marché, ou encore essayer les sites publicitaires qui vous permettront d'obtenir gratuitement quelques fractions de bitcoin.

La popularité du leader historique a généré une concurrence énorme qui le rend presque inaccessible. A l'heure actuelle, miner des altcoins, à condition de bien les choisir, est donc souvent bien plus rentable que de miner des bitcoins, mais avec la fabrication des premiers ASIC Scrypt, il n'est plus très judicieux d'investir de grosses sommes d'argent dans du matériel classique qui pourrait se retrouver rapidement obsolète, et quand on n'a pas commandé à temps son mineur Alpha Technology, ou qu'on n'a pas les moyens de se l'offrir (de 1500 à 6500 euros selon le modèle), seules des configurations à bas coût et finement étudiées peuvent peut-être encore, et pour quelque temps seulement, être rentables. Rien ne vous interdit de convertir vos altcoins en bitcoins sur des plateformes spécialisées commecryptsy ou BTC-e. Notons que le site multipool.us vous permet de miner en permanence la crypto-monnaie la plus rentable du moment.

Si vous voulez tout de même rester sur Bitcoin et avoir un aperçu rapide du minage sans installer de logiciel, essayez Bitcoin Plus, un mineur de Bitcoin fonctionnant dans votre navigateur avec votre CPU. Ce n'est pas du tout rentable, mais c'est une bonne démonstration de minage coopératif. Par ailleurs bitminter, qui est à la fois une coopérative et un logiciel de minage, propose également une solution simplifiée pour débuter. Pour une solution plus complète et plus sérieuse veuillez suivre ces étapes :

1. Installer un logiciel de minage sur votre ordinateur

Les principaux logiciel de minage CPU/GPU miners supportent le minage en équipe :

2. S'inscrire à une coopérative de mineurs (mining pool)

Miner en solo est une devenu une activité très incertaine, vous pourriez consommer du courant pendant des mois sans obtenir la moindre récompense. Pour contrer cela, les mineurs travaillent en équipe. Il vous faudra donc rejoindre une des nombreuses "mining pool" (coopératives de mineurs) qui ont vu le jour depuis la création de bitcoin. Nous avons choisi ici mining.bitcoin.cz. Pour faire un autre choix veuillez vous reporter à cette liste.

- S'inscrire

- Confirmer son email (peut être utilisé pour dépannage)

- Se connecter sur le site web

- Entrez l'adresse de votre porte-monnaie

- Inscrivez vos workers . Vous pouvez utiliser un compte pour tout vos mineurs, mais il est recommandé d'utiliser un compte séparé pour chacun afin de faciliter le dépannage.

4. Lancer le mineur

Au départ, les calculs étaient effectués sur de simples CPU. Puis ce sont les GPU qui ont pris la relève. Ensuite, des FPGA (field-programmable gate array, ou réseaux logiques programmables) ont été programmés spécifiquement pour miner du Bitcoin. Aujourd'hui, ce sont les ASICs (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit, ou circuit intégré spécifique à une application) qui remplissent ce rôle et rendent obsolètes toutes les méthodes précédemment utilisées. Le matériel le plus performant est sans doute celui de butterflylabs.

Lancez votre mineur GPU/FPGA/ASIC avec le "worker" que vous avez inscrit et connectez-vous à cette URL :

Avec l'ouverture de la Maison du Bitcoin c'est aussi le premier distributeur de bitcoins qui entre dans l'hexagone. Une démarche qui mérite d'être saluée et encouragée.

Certes les frais de commission prélevés par la machine paraîtront importants. Ces frais, près de 10%, se justifient néanmoins par les nombreux investissements effectués et par la TVA appliquée sur cette commission [1].

The applications work like normal applications on the Mac were you double-click to start them, and after answering some questions you’re all set. For future runs just double-click on the application icons and you’ll start mining immediately.

Both miners require Mac OS 10.6 ‘Snow Leopard.’ DiabloMiner require a OpenCL capable graphics card (AMD Radeon 5xxx and up; and Nvidia 8xxx and up). RPCminer does not require a recent graphics card.

Installation
Start by downloading a miner, and unpack the application by double-clicking on the downloaded ZIP archive.

Register an account with your mining pool, and register a new miner (if needed). Open the application and answer the questions about the pool server (or even localhost if solo mining), and miner user credentials.

After the initial setup you only need to open the application again to start mining.

Performance hints for the Mac user
Close other CPU and GPU (anything that draws on the screen) intensive applications for most efficient mining. Time Machine back-ups will have a hourly negative performance impact on Diablo. Consider temporarily disabling the back-up system when running this miner. RPC Miner will generate considerable heat. Place the Mac in a way that ensures free air circulation to avoid loss of performance due to heat. Try keeping it lifted from from the table surface.

Development
I will keep these applications up to date as upstream source code is released. Check this thread (bookmark it now!) for updates. License: same open source licenses as the upstream works.

The development goal was to aid users who are unfamiliar with the command line. These scripts are written and packaged for use on Mac OS. Reimplementing them for Linux and Windows should be fairly easy for anyone interested. Contact me if you want to coordinate effort.

Known issues: DiabloMiner exits without notification if the graphics card is unsupported.

P2Pool is a decentralized pool that works by creating a P2P network of miner nodes. These nodes work on a chain of shares similar to Bitcoin's blockchain. Each node works on a block that includes payouts to the previous shares' owners and the node itself. There is no central point of failure, making it DoS resistant.

Getting P2Pool

• Run bitcoin with the RPC interface enabled - see the next section for instructions on how to do this
• Download p2pool: (see links at top for binaries!)

  • With all miners, using a high FPS target (30?) or a low intensity (7?) helps a lot with reducing stales.

HOWTO: Bitcoin server mode
You must be running the Bitcoin client, and it must have its RPC interface enabled.

Open the Bitcoin data folder. See https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Data_directory

Make a new file named bitcoin.conf (not bitcoin.conf.txt! You might have to go into Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Folder Options > View and uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types'). Paste this into it:

Dependencies for running FROM SOURCE:

• Bitcoin 0.5.0 or higher

Additional options of interest:
    -w PORT: Listen for workers on a port other than 9332.
    -a BITCOIN_ADDRESS: Mine to this address instead of requesting one from Bitcoin.

Last, forward port 9333 through your firewall to the host running p2pool! (Oh, and join #p2pool on freenode!)
